The front strap serrations work well, as does the checkering on the back strap. The sights give a great picture on target. The trigger is outstanding and I love the ergonomics. Regardless of which version you buy, the 952 is most definitely a masterpiece, in my opinion. I’ve heard estimates as low as under 200. Total 952 production was quite limited, but production of the 6" model was only a few hundred pistols at most. The "Masterpiece" moniker was soon dropped and the pistol was simply known as the 6" 952-2. After a couple years of producing the 952-2, S&W unleashed the 952 Masterpiece, which was a 6" long slide version built to maximize accuracy for the shooter with a longer sight radius. Other than those two changes, the guns were basically identical. Besides the difference in material and finish, the stainless version(952-2) had a scalloped slide, whereas the blued 952-1 had a slab slide. However, within a year or two, the carbon steel was gone forever in favor of a full stainless pistol. Much like the early 952, the 952-1 model was a carbon steel pistol with a blued slide and frame, with checkered walnut grips. The early (no dash) 952 was the first produced, but soon dropped in favor of the 952-1, when a grip safety was added. It was produced from approximately 2002 to 2010 in limited numbers. It is a single stack, SAO target gun, derived from the legendary Smith & Wesson 52 bullseye competition pistol.
